The Final Push

The All Star Weekend has concluded, and the NBA is in the final 30 games or so of the season. While the The Weekend was okay this year with the Dunk Contest and the All Star game itself, it's time for all 30 teams to make their final push for the Playoffs. While there are some teams pushing and clawing just to make the playoffs, the Lakers are comfortably in, and without any injuries, look like they will finish the season atop the Western Conference. If the Playoffs were to start today, the Lakers would play the Utah Jazz. Whoever it is, I guarantee Kobe and the rest of the crew will be prepared to take anyone on. The Lakers are on a mission this year and I don't think anything or anyone is going to stand in their way. They have all gotten bigger, stronger, and tougher, all of which were their biggest weaknesses in last year's run. With just about the same players back from last year's Finals team, along with a healthy Trevor Ariza and hopefully a healthy Andrew Bynum, the Lakers should be better than they were in last year's Finals. So, let's go Lakers, don't let up in the final 30. Finish strong and take all the momtentum into the playoffs. No failures, no disappointments.

Trade him? Don't sign him in the offseason? For all the Odom haters out there, tonight was the night he officially shut you up. In probably the biggest game of the season so far, Lamar Odom stepped up like a beast. The Lakers were playing the second best team in the league. The Cavs had an undefeated home record at home at 23-0 and the Lakers were coming into Cleveland to finish a six game road trip. Up to this point in the season this was their biggest game of the season and they were playing it without the big man, Mr. Bynum. I recorded the game and told my sister not to tell me what the result was. She said it was just a regular game. Yeah, a regular game for casual fans like her, but not to me (haha just kidding Ateh.) Now to see Lamar Odom post a 28 point 17 rebound game, and to see the Lakers hand King James and the Cavs their first loss of the season just about made my night. I'm sure you haters don't wanna trade him now. Fuckers.

Thanks to Jed I was unable to watch the final three minutes of the Lakers triumphant victory over the Celtics on Thursday night. UGH! Nonetheless, I know the outcome and I don't think I can be any happier with the current status of my beloved team. The Lakers hold the best record in the NBA at 40-9. They snapped Boston's two longest win streaks of the season and its the first time a team has done that twice to the same team in the same season. SWEET! They're 5-0 on their current road trip and tomorrow they will face King James and the Cavs (second best record in the NBA) at 12:30. IF they win they win that game, the Lakers will finish this six game road trip at 6-0. That would be excellent. The only thing going wrong for the Lakes is that big man Andrew Bynum is out with a torn MCL. Get better buddy. We're gonna need you in the Finals, because yes, the Lake Show is gonna be back in the Finals. Or at least I hope so. I'll be keepin' my fingers crossed.

It's been hard I'm not gonna lie, and I miss you so much. You chill with my friends, my siblings, all while I'm around. But, I've ignored you. I'm doin well so far, and it feel so good. I'm just not as lazy anymore. I actually feel like doin shit. I mean my laundry is folded, my room is cleaner, I finished my homework, and when I wake up in the morning, I'm not all sluggish. You were affecting my everyday mood, and I hated it. Not to mention, that for some reason I have money that I wouldn't usually have because I'm spending it on you. And yes, you are a waste of money. Money that I work incredibly hard for and could be using on better stuff. Or just saving it. I think I'm coming to realize that there's more important things to do in life, and you weren't really helping me accomplish them. Don't get me wrong, I'll always love you, but there's a time and place for everything and I need to get my priorities straight. People are telling me that I need an incentive to stay away from you. But really, I'm just doing this for myself, for self-discipline. To show myself that I don't need anyone or anything to tell me what I should or could do. It's only been 10 days, though, and I don't want to speak too soon. So stay away, back the fuck up, and maybe I'll see you in 30. Peace.

After starting the season 4-8, the San Diego Chargers sneaked in the playoffs last week with a win over the Denver Broncos. They won four straight, ending the season at 8-8 and became the first team in NFL history to start the season 4-8 and make the playoffs. Yesterday, they had a meeting with one of their biggest rivals, the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Wild Card game. After another close, intense game, the Chargers came out on top in Overtime, 23-17. I must admit, after the 4-8 start I kinda stopped watching the Chargers knowing that they could be much, much better than what they were playing. But, they definitely have finished the season strong and I am ashamed of myself for ever doubting my team. Let's go to the Superbowl! Shit...

The Finest of 2008

2008 has probably been the best year of my life so far. Just another year of learning, another year of growin' and tryin' to make myself the best person I could be. From trying new things, to meeting new people, to moving to yet another city and opening up a restaurant. It's just another unexpected stop in life, but I'm really trying to take full advantage of this opportunity. I find myself pretty damn lucky right now. I really had no idea that I would be where I'm at. Like Aliso Viejo?! Where the fuck is that? But I'm here now and it's actually a pretty chill spot.

But anyways, that picture is the ticket stub for what was by far the coolest thing I've done in recent memory. Rock the Bells '08! How can you beat a lineup that consisted of De La Soul, Rakim, Method Man, Mos Def, Nas, my main man MURS, The Pharcyde, and my favorite group of all time: A Tribe Called Quest. Seein' my favorite artists live, on E was such an exhilarating experience. Listening to the best music, on an amazing drug (kids don't try this at home!) was inexplicably satisfying. I hope '09 is just as dope if not better. I hope that you will like to make the next appearance with me! HA Peace to 08!

Christmas was the shit this year. It consisted of the coolest family in the world, lots of dank food, 7 hours straight of Rockband! alcohol, other controlled substances, and just a whole lotta fun. The Lakers vs. Celtics Christmas Day game was possibly the most anticipated regular season game in NBA history. The Celtics had just beaten the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals, they were on a 19 game win streak, and posted the best 29 game start in NBA history at 27-2. The Lakers were the best team in the Western Conference by far and were looking to get their NBA Finals revenge, and they did just that. Fuck yeah! The Lakers controlled the entire game. The issues of softness and bad D had been resovled, if only for a game. They held the Celtics to 82 points and the return of Andrew Bynum sure helped with the Lakers toughness. The game started Christmas day off just right.

With all talk about LeBron James going to the Knicks in 2010, I wanted to see what he would be workin' with. The Knicks looked good under former Suns coach Mike Di Antoni. They started off real hot. Hot as in they dropped 11, yes 11! threes in the first 24. They played bomb and ended the Half with a 15 point lead! Whaaat?! They impressed not gonna lie. BUT, the second half was a different story thanks to #24 and company. It was close the entire second half but the better team left with the victory. Sorry New York, but if you want The King to come to town I think you need just a little more for him to play with. You are on the right track tho. Anyways, the Lake Show is on the road for four straight games and then....

I've always been curious to what would happen if I flipped off a cop, and I just found out. Never, ever flip off a cop, especially when driving intoxicated and they're lights are flashing right into your car. By far the dumbest thing I've done all year. I need to start filtering through my decisions when I'm intoxicated. I do some dumb shit. I should be in jail this morning. I consider myself way too lucky. Lucky that I had a sober friend in the car and lucky that all I got was a speeding ticket. I wasn't even speeding but I don't think they have tickets for flippin' off a cop. I'd take the ticket over jail any day. Sorry to Jon, Albert, and Karlin for my stupidity. Never doin' that again. HAH

How many people do you fully trust? Do you even trust your own friends? I feel like trust, in any relationship can either make it or break it. "Can I trust that my girl is really going to the store? Can I trust that my friend is just hanging out with my girlfriend?" These are obviously hypothetical questions, but questions that one may ask themselves one day. And I believe that if one can say without a doubt 100% yes to these kind of questions, then you have found a relationship worth keeping. I have many acquaintances, but a very select group of friends. Don't get me wrong, I like the people I surround myself with. If I don't like you then I won't be around you. I like to keep company of people with the same interests, goals, and lifestyles. But the reason my friends are my friends is because I can trust them and vice versa. "The best thing is not knowing that your friends have your back, it's knowing that you have theirs." Trust goes both ways. I think the best way to gain trust is through honesty, communication, and loyalty. Honesty: show that you can tell someone something even if its gonna piss them off. Communication: This ain't hide and seek. Loyalty: stick to those who mean the most to you. Don't go and hook up with your best friends ex-girlfriend. C'mon now. In the end, if you can't trust your friends, then who are you gonna trust. But in order to gain your friends trust, they have to gain yours.
